History

On an auspicious day of June 1986, the Kriya Yoga Dhyana Kendra, Kalahandi, Bhawanipatna came into existence with official Registration No.249-6/86-87 by the divine grace and care of the founder and life chairman, our Pujya Gurudev Paramahansa Atmanandji. The foundation sessions of the meditation classes were being held in the house of Late Narayan Chand of Bhawanipatna where the Kriyabans used to practice Kriya daily. Day by day, our Gurudev initiated a number of new entrants and with the increasing number of Kriyabans the need of a meditation Hall was felt. With the sincere efforts and will power (Ichha Shakti) as well as mercy of God and Gurus a piece of land was purchased at Bahadur Bagicha Pada, Bhawanipatna and a Meditation Hall with a living room and verandah having basic amenities was constructed. The Kriyabans used to visit the Meditation Center daily in the morning and evening and practice Kriya followed by Arati. On festival occasions like Ganesh Puja, Guru Purnima, Janmastami, Shiva Ratri, Shri Panchami, Birthday of Yogiraj Sri Lahiri Mahasaya,Swami Sri Yukteswarji , Paramahansa Yogananda ,special Puja is offered and Dhyana is conducted by the Yogacharyas. Usually, our Paramapujya Gurudev Paramahansa Atmanandji visits Bhawanipatna twice or thrice annually. During his visit, he delivers Prabachans and conducts classes in the morning and evening. A good number of Kriyabans have also been initiated by Gurudev Paramahansa Atmanandji into higher Kriya and also to the order of Yogacharya.

This Dhyana Kendra is dedicated to the spiritual upliftment of the whole mankind alongwith physical fitness through regular practice of Yoga in general and Kriya Yoga in particular. To fulfill this ambition, with the blessings and under the guidance of Gurudev Paramahansa Atmanandji, a number of Kriya Yoga Centers ( Dhyana Kendras) have come up at Dharmagarh, Mohangiri, Jaypatna, Mathura & Belkhandi in Kalahandi District and at Balangir, Berhampur, Sunabeda in the state of Odisha. Besides these, centers like Deobhog in Chhatisgarh, Visakhapatnam & Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh have also come up and a good number of Kriyabans have been initiated.
